Emmie's 9 Months Old

Thanks to the lack of power (we did finally get it back after 13 days of no power) I'm a little late with this post. Last week Emmie turned 9 months old. She's 28 inches tall and weighs 17 lbs; apparently she's tall and skinny for her age but healthy. She has mastered crawling and is pulling herself up on everything and wants to walk every where. We think she'll be walking before she's 10 months old but we'll just have to wait and see. She has also figured out how to go upstairs but not how to go down them so we have purchased baby gates to be installed this evening. We have also lowered her crib to the lowest setting as she seems to always be standing in it when we go to get her out of it. We are lucky as she is still a laid back and happy little girl. She does seem to not want anyone other than a select few of us to hold her so we are working on that.

Our Week in Austin

As you already know we spent last week in Austin escaping the lack of power in Houston. Even thought I had to work we did manage to make some small outings to enjoy the time with our family and friends. Here are some pictures from our week.

Bootcamp

So today I started my 4 weeks of boot camp. It's before the crack of dawn ( 5 a.m. to 6 a.m.) and I go three days a week. I do get the feeling if I can stick to it for the 4 weeks I will be in better shape, but I don't see myself doing another session (at least not right away). Bellow is the before picture....The reason it's black is because...yes, you guessed it - we still don't have power. I was holding out hope that since CenterPoint set their own deadlines they would actually meet them. I was wrong! As of lunch today we still don't have power and there is no update of when we will have power. My mom came and got Emmie so she can return to the life of luxury she was growing used to in Austin. The rest of us without power are fortunate enough to have come across a generator and window unit so we are at least better off then yesterday at this time. As wonderful as a generator seems this week I did learn that you can not run a blow dryer from it so the hair style is a big old frizzy mess.

Avoiding the Heat

Well as some of you know we still don't have electricity which means no A/C and in Houston in September that means it's hot anyplace without it. So Maria took Emmie and the girls to the mall to cool off. Emmie is apparently being her normal self and smiling away at everyone. She was so excited this morning to see Maria, April, and Jenny. Hopefully our electricity comes back on today as CenterPoint has predicted on their latest update. On the bright side our electric bill should be cheap this month on the other hand my mom’s going to have a heart attack when she get’s hers.

Waiting for Ike

Almost all our neighbors stuck around for Ike so we had a big block party before...

Ike

Here are pictures of the trees down by our rental. The large on in the street is actual not ours. The rest are. As you can see one of our trees came down and broke our neighbor's fence.

Emmie & Andrew

As both her grand-babies where in town Pamma invited us to go have Emmie and Andrew's pictures taken. Both Andrew and Emmie did a great job of smiling and we got some great shots. Emmie is definitely a fan of the camera and breaks out in smiles the second you start shooting her. Here's a link to the pictues from the session: http://picasaweb.google.com/klhanvey/EmmieAndrew#

Ike

Well we survived Ike. As most of you might have guessed after the evacuation traffic we got stuck in leaving for Rita we decided to stay put for Ike. We got lucky and had no damage to our house. We did have trees fall over at the rental so we'll start the clean up when we get power back on. We are safe and cool in Austin enjoying time with both our families. Thank you for all of those that called, emailed and texted us and our family to check on us!
